Macroglossia is a medical term used when your tongue swells and becomes abnormally large. This is not a problem you here of often, it is a rare disease that affects less than 200,000 people in the United States. As the tongue swells it can affect speech and the ability to eat. If the tongue grows large enough to block the airway, the problem can become life threatening. An excessively large tongue may be congenital or may develop as a result of a tumor or obstruction of lymphatic vessels. Macroglossia is also seen in those with Down Syndrome.
The problem of a swollen tongue is something that I personally have had to deal with for almost 10 years. My tongue has had deep fissures in it since I was about 7 or 8 years old. I feel that this is a sign of a congested and overly acidic tongue. About 10 years ago I noticed a bump in the center of my tongue that would appear and then go away. Over the years it grew, multiplied to 2 or 3 bumps and would occasionally bleed a little. At times my tongue was very sensitive and felt enlarged, laying on top of my teeth.
Once I started activating the lymphatic system in my neck, mouth and tongue I was able to reduce the swelling when it appeared. When I use the self-lymphatic activation on a regular basis the problem gets better and the bumps go away. When I don't do it for a few weeks I feel the tongue swelling again or getting sore. In my office I have seen a few seniors who have had tongue cancer, with very swollen tongues. I feel if they would have had the opportunity to activate the lymph vessels and nodes in their mouth and tongue earlier in their life they may have been able to avoid the hardships that cancer brings.
A cause of macroglossia is lymphatic system congestion caused by Amyloidosis (the buildup of insoluble proteins that clog the lymphatic vessels, nodes and tissues of the tongue). The lymphatic system helps to remove excess fluid and proteins (insoluble parts of dead cells) from the body. When it cannot perform this action, acid waste and proteins build in the tongue and it swells, becoming sensitive and inflamed.
You can help reduce swelling or sensitivity in your tongue by first activating the lymphatic nodes above the clavicle bones, the neck and base of the ears. Then you can activate the nodes on either side of the front of the tongue and in the mouth. The tiny lymphatic vessels and nodes can congest easily, by self-activating the lymphatic system you manually improve circulation and detoxification in the tongue. This relieves swelling and reduces pain or sensitivity in the tongue and may lower your risk of future diseases of the tongue.
